Isaiah 30:18
“You should never just turn to a random scripture and think that is a way to hear from God.” I have heard some version of this phrase frequently as a Christian. And while I am a huge believer in studying scripture from beginning to end and putting individual scriptures back in context before assuming what they mean - there are also days or seasons that I simply feel stuck and like I don’t even know where to start. The idea for this blog came from one of those times and realizing that being stagnant is a great way for the enemy to keep us silent and unproductive. I asked Niki (close friend, iron sharpener, and fellow writer) to join me in a challenge this week. She chose a scripture and we both wrote what we learned from it. I did take the time to read the entire chapter and to look up the original meaning of words (because I’m curious that way) but that all came from one challenge and one scripture. While the Bible is not a magic 8 ball to ask a question and let it randomly flip open to a scripture in response—it IS the word of Yahweh and can teach so much just from your willingness to jump in. Even if all you can do is one scripture at a time. Dive in and let it lead you.
I have yet to read Niki’s post because I wanted each of us to not be influenced by the other. I’m excited to see how He revealed Himself to each of us! So, read it for yourself and then check out each of our responses and let us know what you learned for yourself!
Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! (Isaiah 30:18 NIV)
